Curriculum Choices
Students have a free choice of any four A Levels. All of the subjects offered at GCSE are available at A level, as well as Further Mathematics, Accounting, Psychology, Travel & Tourism, Health & Social Care and Music Technology.
Many students recall the shift from GCSE to A level as one of the greatest hurdles they experienced in their academic carreers. From 10 or 11 subjects, the academic programme suddenly drops to only 3 or 4 subjects. Students have more time to plan and structure their own way of working and this is important due to the much higher demands compared to the GCSE syllabus. The emphasis is therefore on increased responsibility, independent work and self-motivated delivery.
It may take students a while to settle into this new style, but our experienced teaching staff as well as form tutors and pastoral leaders guide students successfully through these academic and personal challenges. By the time our students reach the end of Year 13 at Sherrardswood, they will be well-prepared for life beyond school.
